Every country has its own hotel star rating standards and Vietnam has its own one. It normally ranks from 1 to 5, some extremely luxury hotels are applying for 6-star but that has not been approved yet by the Vietnam Administration of Tourism (VNAT). Therefore, we just want to provide some information on how Vietnam Tourism ranks their hotel from 3 to 5 stars. The Ministry of Culture, Sports & Tourism (MCST) will direct its inspectors and the Vietnam Hotel Association to provide guidance to VNAT and Departments of Culture, Sports and Tourism on organizing inspections of local accommodation, especially from 3 to 5 star hotels. Those that have failed to maintain standards with have their ranking revoked. As at May 2016, Vietnam has 101 five-star, 229 four-star, and 463 three-star hotels, according to VNAT.

 

1.  Three-star:

–  At least 50 guest rooms

–  Garden and surrounding area (not applicable for city hotels)

–   Parking lot

–  Restaurant and bar

–  Central air-cons in public areas

–  Water filter system which guests can drink directly from tap water

–  From the 3rd floor, there are elevators for guests, employees, goods and handicaps

–  1 sofa and 2 chairs, TV and mini bar, make-up table

–  Air-cons and fire alarm

–  Knife for fruits, bottle opener and shoe polisher

–  Bathtubs for 50% of rooms

–  Telephone, hair dryer, bath blind, shampoo and hair cover, shave soap and razor, ear cotton, sanitary bag

–  Service hours is from 6-24 hours

–  Room services

–  Meeting room, dancing room, taxi services, post office, fax, photocopy,

–  Telephone in guest room can call to other provinces

–  Pool

–  Handicap wheel chair

–  Management team must have bachelor degrees. If they are not major in Tourism or Hospitality, must have 6-month diploma in Tourism or Hospitality, experience at least 2 years, speak fluently at least 1 foreign language

 

2.  Four-star: must have all facilities as 3-star but have some extra ones:

–  At least 80 guest rooms

–  Garden and surrounding area (not applicable for city hotels)

–  Parking lot is enough for 30% of guests

–  Asian and Western kitchens, banquet rooms and bar or night club

–  Central air-cons in public areas

–  Water filter system which guests can drink directly from tap water

–  From the 3rd floor, there are elevators for guests, employees, goods and handicaps

–  Control panel for electricity and light is on bedside

–  Central music system

–  Bathtubs and bath gowns

–  Change flower, fruits and newspapers everyday

–  Service hours is from 6-24 hours

–  Room services and buffet breakfast

–  Souvenir shop, convenient shop, laundry, shoe polish, meeting rooms, gyms, entertainment room, sauna and massage, pools and tennis court, medical aid.

–  Management team must have bachelor degrees. If they are not major in Tourism or Hospitality, must have 1-year diploma in Tourism or Hospitality, experience at least 3 years, speak fluently at least 1 foreign language

 

3. Five-star: must have all facilities as 4-star but have some extra ones:

–  At least 100 guest rooms

–  Garden and surrounding area (not applicable for city hotels)

–  Parking lot is big enough for 50% of guests

–  Asian and Western kitchens, banquet rooms and bar or night club

–  Offer laundry services

–  Central air-cons in public areas

–  Water filter system which guests can drink directly from tap water

–  From the 3rd floor, there are elevators for guests, employees, goods and handicaps

–  Digital lock and key

–  Bathtubs

–  Provide body lotions, sanitary napkins for women

–  Housekeeping cleans room 2 times/day

–  Restaurant services 24 hours/day

–  Room services and buffet breakfast

–  Theatre or cinema, meeting rooms, spa, beauty salon, information desk, post office, tennis court

–  Services for handicaps and children

–  Management team must have bachelor degrees. If they are not major in Tourism or Hospitality, must have 1-year diploma in Tourism or Hospitality, experience at least 3 years, speak fluently at least 1 foreign language
